16歳でボクシングの世界へ飛び込み、元WBA世界Jr.バンタム級王者・鬼塚勝也氏の付き人として、プロの勝負の世界とリングの厳しさを間近で学ぶ。18歳でプロライセンスを取得。しかし、日本でのプロライセンスは剥奪。

鬼塚氏のキャンプで訪れたことをきっかけに、本場アメリカのボクシングに憧れ、ロサンゼルスで野宿をしながらボクシング武者修行。その後も定期的に訪れ、ラスベガス・ニューヨーク・ボストンなどで武者修行。20歳の時に訪れたタイではムエタイをはじめる。23歳の時に、総合格闘技のジム（SSSアカデミー）のチーフトレーナーとして指導者としてのキャリアをスタートする。元修斗世界チャンピオン・弘中邦佳選手の打撃トレーナーも務めた。

24歳の時に、格闘家としての経験を重ねながら、モデル・俳優としてのキャリアをスタート。2000年にはNIKEアジア・オセアニアモデルとしてデビューし、2003年にLevi'sのアジアモデルにも抜擢されるなど、活動の幅を広げていった。

格闘技で鍛え上げた身体能力と実戦的なアクションを武器に、国内外の映画・ドラマへ活動の場を広げる。

映画『ゴジラ×モスラ×メカゴジラ 東京SOS』『ラスト サムライ』『ワイルド・スピードX3 TOKYO DRIFT』『SHINOBI』『劇場版 仮面ライダーカブト GOD SPEED LOVE』『あしたのジョー』などに出演。

主演映画『BUSHIDO MAN』では、格闘家として培った身体表現と俳優としての存在感が評価され、2014年ジャパンアクションアワード「ベストアクション男優賞 優秀賞」を受賞した。

近年は俳優としての出演に加え、アクション監修、格闘技指導、会津弁指導など、作品を支える立場でも活動。日韓合作映画『009／苦情処理班』ではアクション監修を務め、キャストそれぞれの個性を活かしたアクションシーンの設計と現場指導に携わった。

また、自身が主演を務めた福島・会津若松市舞台の映画『日めくりの味』では、故郷に根差した人間の生き方を静かに体現。この作品をきっかけに、会津若松市観光大使にも就任。

俳優として培ってきた経験と、格闘・アクションの現場で磨いてきた演出力を生かし、現在は監督としての作品制作にも取り組んでいる。

At 16, he entered the world of boxing, becoming an attendant to former WBA World Junior Bantamweight Champion Katsuya Onizuka and learning the harsh realities of professional competition and the ring up close. At 18 he obtained his professional boxing license — only to later have it revoked in Japan.

A training camp trip with Onizuka sparked a fascination with American boxing at its source. He trained in Los Angeles, sometimes sleeping rough along the way, then kept returning regularly afterward, continuing his training journey through Las Vegas, New York, and Boston. At 20 he traveled to Thailand and took up Muay Thai. At 23 he began his coaching career as chief trainer at the mixed martial arts gym SSS Academy, later serving as striking coach for former Shooto world champion Kuniyoshi Hironaka.

At 24, while continuing to build his experience as a fighter, he launched a career in modeling and acting — debuting as a NIKE Asia-Oceania campaign model in 2000, and landing a Levi's Asia campaign in 2003, steadily broadening the scope of his work.

Armed with the physicality and combat-honed action skills forged through martial arts, he expanded into film and television both in Japan and abroad.

Film credits include Godzilla × Mothra × Mechagodzilla: Tokyo S.O.S., The Last Samurai, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Shinobi, Kamen Rider Kabuto: God Speed Love, and Ashita no Joe.

For his leading role in BUSHIDO MAN, his fighter's physicality and presence as an actor earned him the Excellence Award for Best Action Actor at the 2014 Japan Action Awards.

In recent years, alongside acting, he has taken on roles that support productions from behind the scenes — as action director, martial arts coach, and dialect coach for the Aizu regional dialect. On the Japan-Korea co-production 009／Complaint Department, he served as action director, designing action sequences tailored to each cast member and directing them on set.

In Hi-Mekuri no Aji, a film set in his hometown of Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima, in which he starred, he quietly embodied a way of life rooted in home. The project led to his appointment as a tourism ambassador for the city of Aizuwakamatsu.

Drawing on his experience as an actor and the directorial instincts sharpened on the set of martial arts and action productions, he is now also taking on filmmaking as a director.
